A fairly simple action story but I like how both Usagi and the medicine peddler had both heard of one an other.

This was the first time I had seen a word put to Usagi's (and other characters') uncanny ability to know when someone was following him or lurking out of sight or about to attack: dairokken.
I like this story, especially the co-workers (the medicine-dealer assassin and hunter assassin) who have little respect for each other. Such a--for lack of a better word--human touch. Thinking of later stories, I believe many Koroshi refer to their colleagues as fools or incompetents. And of course Kagemaru schemes for years to usurp Chizu as jonin of the Neko ninja. Maybe Usagi owes his continued survival in part to a lack or camaraderie among his adversaries.

This is one of those stories which illustrates how the bad guys are their own worst enemies at times. They have no sense of honor among themselves and will usually place their own desires before the agenda of what they have been told to do. It is also evident that Lord Miyagi is insensitive and uncaring of his vassals and his responsibilities to them, using them however he see's fit in his arrogance and almost acting as vile as the villains in the story who are out to kill him.
I find it rather ironic that Icho may have done more good over time helping the poor with his medicine's versus the killing he has done. Even more so in that Usagi shows a liking for Icho and even hoping that Icho wasn't the killer he had heard tales of.
