Alan Napier played Alfred in the 60s Batman series. In 1989's Batman, Joker's name was revealed to be Jack Napier. Was this a tribute to Alan Napier or a coincidence? It would be odd to pay tribute to Alan Napier by giving his surname to a villain, but I don't believe in coincidences. I've heard this was a tribute, though like others, I am skeptical. Alan Napier passed away in August, 1988 and filming started in October of 1988 so if The Joker's name were meant to homage Napier, then it was pretty down to the wire. I too have also heard Jack Napier = Jackanapes. However, since Burton did use the names of actual actors for some of his fictional creations - Alexander Knox, Max Schreck - I kind of wonder if he didn't work Napier in there as well.

Interesting replies, I think I'd bet money about it being a coincidence.
So it's true that Jack Nicholson showed up at the Batman premiere dressed as the Joker, right?
(If anyone knows what I mean by that, and can post EXACTLY what I am referring to, post it here!).

Is Mark Texeria still doing comics work? I remember him doing the Jonah Hex/Yosemite Sam Special in 2017, but, aside from that, I cannot recall seeing anything by him since the mid-2000s.

Thanks. I thought he'd seemed to drop off the radar. It's a shame because he is decent artist, and his work is solid and dependable.

So my son is playing some game that has Dr Strange and The Defenders in it. So he asks me what is Strange like in the comics compared to the movies. Well off the top of head I gave him the below issues to check out. Then in hindsight I remember Strange banishing Hulk right before the Grey Hulk saga by David. Anyone else have any good Strange suggestions? It may even be Comics I own but I’m not remembering. Since I don’t actually own any of Strange’s own title. upload img

I'll be visiting Atlanta May 15-20. Can anyone recommend some comic shops or or even a small comic book show going on that weekend?

I'll be visiting Atlanta May 15-20. Can anyone recommend some comic shops or or even a small comic book show going on that weekend? My knowledge is 30 years out of date, though I can say that DragonCon is the main show in Atlanta; but that is usually around Labor Day Weekend. I went to the Atlanta Fantasy Fair, back in '91; but it ended in 1995. Don't know much beyond that. A google search turned up Criminal Records, at 1154 Euclid Ave NE; Oxford Comics & Games, at 2855 Piedmont Rd; Titan Comics, at 2512 Cobb Pkwy, Smyrna. Here's a Yelp entry, with info...Hope that helps.

Warning about Atlanta, if you haven't been there; everything is Peachtree this or that: street, road, ave, blvd, etc. Make sure of your address before trying to find anything. I think it was designed to confuse yankees.

I'll be visiting Atlanta May 15-20. Can anyone recommend some comic shops or or even a small comic book show going on that weekend? I was in Atlanta about a little more a month ago and I visited two stores ... Oxford Comics & Games of which located on 2855 Piedmont Rd NE Buckhead (404) 233-8682 ... and ... Book Nook located on 3073 N Druid Hills Rd (404) 633-1342 Both are outstanding ... but Book Nook has a lot of the Modern Stuff and Oxford has the older stuff too. That visit was my 1st visit and I just don't know Atlanta that well. This is the best that I can do here.

The exhibitor space has become a nightmare, because attendance has ballooned (I think last year had 80k people), but content (including vendors) has not increased. There's over an hour wait to get inside the vendor hall, and once you're in, it's wall to wall bodies on every single aisle. It seems to me they should increase the ticket price and decrease the vendor fees to encourage more participation. Also, they need to rent an arena for plenary sessions of the most popular speakers, because as it is right now, you can only attend about two events a day; the rest of your time is spent waiting in line for those two. If you don't get in line two hours before your event, you generally won't get in. Is San Diego Comic Con the same way? I'd pay more for a better experience.
