Spain had a thriving comic industry, through the Golden and Silver Ages and into the 80s; but, more and more their artists could find better paying work elsewhere and did more and more for the Franco-Belgian, UK and US publishers. The 60s were a fertile period, as were the early 80s, with the publication of El Vibora, featuring people like Daniel Torres (Rocco Vargas). Esteban Maroto was the darling of the 60s and early 70s, with Cinco Por Infinito; but, Warren and others paid better. Segrelles had El Mercenario, one of the top publications in Europe, which was showcased in Heavy Metal and at NBM, in the US.

Prior to that, you had more comic strips and comic magazines, with characters like Cuto (sort of a Spanish version of Tintin, with a more traditional illustrative style), Capitan trueno (a kind of Prince Valiant), El Guerrero del Antifaz (another medieval adventure, with a masked knight), plus the humor comic Mortadelo y Filemon

The industry thrived through Franco's reign and the 40s and 50s were considered their Golden Age and it was vital through 1975. After Franco you see Daniel Torres and Carlos Giminez; but the 80s were time of financial crisis in Spain and there was a paper shortage, which hurt several publishers. by the 90s, many were out of business or swallowed up by other publishing houses.
