I'm working on Daredevil - not the entire series, but everything I can get at a reasonable price from the beginning up to around the end of Gerber's run, the Frank Miller run (since I already had most of it), and a few of the issues in between.
The early DD issues, roughly 1 - 20, are a little too expensive for me so I'm looking for those in the early reprint series that came out in the 60s and early 70s, like Marvel Superheroes, etc.
I'm doing the same for the early issues of other books like the FF, the Avengers, and Spider-man, reprinted in series like Marvel Collector's Items, Marvel Triple Action, and so on. I just realised a little while ago that this was my best option to read these stories in colour, since I don't like the colouring in the Masterworks collections and the issues of the actual series are too expensive.

I'm working on far too many series to name them all - and consequently most of them are a long way from complete. Right now some of the series which look closest to completion are: The Atom (5 to go), Rip Hunter Time Master (6), and Justice League of America (36).
I'm also working on a number of old EC series, and they're short enough that I may complete a couple of them soonish (like a couple years). For Weird Science I have 14 of 22 issues, and I have about half of Weird Fantasy, Vault of Horror, and Tales from the Crypt.

The Dark Horse Usagi run is one I should get back to as well, probably before I start tackling the long magazine runs. As well as the Mirage run.

I also still need a handful of issues to complete my runs of '70s Marvel Westerns (Gunhawks, Outlaw Kid, Red Wolf) Those buggers can indeed be elusive. I finally found a cheap copy of the Red Wolf I was missing (#7) earlier this year via Lone Star, & I still lack Gunhawks #6. Not to mention Gunslinger #1.

The two main series that I'm working to complete currently are Bronze Age Jonah Hex, including his All-Star Western and Weird Westen Tales appearances (I have almost exactly a third of the run currently), and Marvel's The 'Nam, which I'm exactly half way to completing so far.

I find the pre-Miller DD to be quite charming. I loooooove the Gene Colan-Syd Shores issues and am quite fond of the Steve Gerber DD in San Francisco issues as well. And that bizzaro rogues gallery. Just great!
Not that I mind the Miller-Janson and Nocenti-Williamson era's but I enjoy the above... more.

Maybe not complete, but definitely get a better representative sample from...like at least a couple or so very early issues...from original Golden Age classics like Action Comics, Superman, Batman, Detective Comics and Archie.
For books like these, I'd graciously compromise my finicky grading standards, and go as low as a VG+
My Amazing Spider-Man (1963 series) is only missing the pricey issues that go for upwards of $1,000 in high-grade - but I want those books in high-grade. I got #14 in VF for a great deal - if you consider $875 a great deal (I do, I don't mind spending that much on a book because if I ever choose to resell that book, I'm not likely to lose out).

Most everyone here probably has some classic series they're trying to fill in with back issues. What are yours? How far do you have to go? Mine are: 1st Thunderbolt series (missing around 10 or so) 1st Defenders (missing around 15) Spectre (Ostrander series, maybe 20 or so) I'm working on these as well. I need about 20-25 Thunderbolts though, same with Defenders and as far as Spectre I need 20 as well. I'm not sure if you're like me but I don't read a series until I finish the run or series. It's a terrible habit but one I have. Off the top of my head here are the others Marvel Fanfare-just need #60 (thought I had it but didn't) Captain Atom (80s series)- need about 5 Ms Tree- need about 10 Sleepwalker-need #32 (not sure I need it but might as well) Atari Force-#20 New Teen Titans- need 1,2,44 I read them as I get them. Otherwise it could be years before I finish them, and quite frankly I don't have the patience. Once (if) I get them all, I'd like to sit down and read the whole run, though. I also thought of a couple more I'm on the look out for (helped by other people's lists): Invaders (missing maybe 2 or 3) New Teen Titans up to #100 (missing just #3, I think. I had them all but had to sell 2-10, along with early New X-Men, to pay for vet bills a few decades ago)

Let's see ... series I'm close on:
Superboy -- lacking only #107 from having a complete run from 102-on. (Don't have any of #s 1-101 &, barring a discovery in the attic of some relative I don't even know exists, don't really expect to ever remedy that.)
Power of Shazam #s 44, 45
Outsiders (1985) #28
Xombi #s 13, 19
New X-Men (2004) #s 40, 44-46
Sub-Mariner #s 1, 34
Captain Marvel (1999) #28
Invaders #31
Guardians of the Galaxy (1990) #s 59, 60
Alpha Flight #s 122, 128-130
Jonny Quest (Comico) #31
Wordsmith (Caliber) #s 6, 8
Doctor Tomorrow #s 10, 12
Troublemakers #s 15, 19

Supreme
64,65,66,67
Tom Strong
23,30,31,32,33,34,35,36
I need 1 and 4 from the Avengers v.1 but the prices are too high. And I guess if I ever hit the lotto I might look for Fantastic Four 1-100.

Even on Ebay anything above, say 6.0, sells in upwards of $30.00 an issue... and forget about keys.

Amazing Spider-Man #90-400....missing keys #121, 129, 238 and then about 5-6 random other issues (including #240 which I can just never find when out and about). V for Vendetta #1-10....missing #4,5,9. Really want to complete it so I can read it. Punisher Mini Series....#1 and #3 as elusive and expensive as all hell on the rare occasion I do see them.
