I guess that's not a problem anymore with the advent of GPS tech. I guess it's like the suspense there used to be in old movies with landline phones and the cutting of phone lines to isolate targets of murder.

I haven't watched Letterman in decades but there was a bit of self-deprecating humor as I recall. If you ever want to see him looking really awful though dig up that pilot for a game show with celebrities he did... absolutely painful to watch and he is dying through the whole thing. I was definitely more of a Johnny Carson person though. The arch collegiate ironic thing was always lost on me never having been to college. Just smugness based on nothing but economic class to little old radical me. National Lampoon magazine had it in place of actual humor as well.

The copyright period is ridiculously long and largely serves only to protect a handful of multinational corporations.
There. I said it.
But not for the first or the last time.

Most superhero films are mediocre at best, including the MCU films. Most superhero comic books from the Golden Age to the present, aspire to mediocrity and fail to achieve it, Marvel and DC especially. Sturgeon's Law and all. But what it comes down to in the end is not are they good or great, but do they entertain their audience? They are a commercial entertainment product after all and that is the ultimate measure of their success. -M

To be entertained for the time which it takes me to get through them and away from the reality of the real world. So far I have NOT been failing to enjoy any MCU/DCU movies. I don't expect greatness or to having my life altered in 2-3 hours of a comic book movie. Your mileage may vary.

Most superhero films are mediocre at best, including the MCU films. For me, I will judge each on on its own merits. In my social circle, I seem to be one of the only ones who enjoyed Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. I like the story, I like the interaction between Chris Pratt and Kurt Russell, I like the special effects, etc. I consider it to be underrated. But whenever I read reviews, the majority don't seem positive. No-one in my social circle likes it. I didn't enjoy Iron Man 2. I'd say I didn't enjoy 95% of it. But, again, I have come across people who think it's okay, not too bad, etc. Everyone's mileage does indeed vary. I feel that way as I progress through the "Showcase" volume (2) of Bats' BATB team-ups. At times, I am thinking, 'These stories are pedestrian and plot-driven, but there's not much characterisation.' Then I'll go and read BATB #100 and come away thinking, 'That was bloody awesome.'

Most superhero films are mediocre at best, including the MCU films. Most films of any genre are mediocre at best. Why expect superhero films to be any different?

Most superhero films are mediocre at best, including the MCU films. Sturgeon's law, in his own words. "I repeat Sturgeon's Revelation, which was wrung out of me after twenty years of wearying defense of science fiction against attacks of people who used the worst examples of the field for ammunition, and whose conclusion was that ninety percent of SF is crud. Using the same standards that categorize 90% of science fiction as trash, crud, or crap, it can be argued that 90% of film, literature, consumer goods, etc. is crap. In other words, the claim (or fact) that 90% of science fiction is crap is ultimately uninformative, because science fiction conforms to the same trends of quality as all other art forms."

Like a Sturgeon, wading through the very worst slime. . .♪♫♬

I thought 8 of the MCU movies were very good to great. The other 12 were good to okay. None of them have been terrible , although I might rank Iron Man3 as the worst.

Prince Hal ... I'm here until May and then I will be off to England/Scotland with my girlfriend Barbara and post much less when I come back in June on. I'm being more selected in my postings and try to do more quality posts than quantity. I'll be gone for the whole month of May.
